The Three Queens of Bali
"The Three Queens of Bali" is a documentary film directed by Cathee Mang that highlights women performing Balinese masked dance drama, portraying both female and male characters, and the obstacles they encounter. The film is rich with dance and music while narrating a dramatic story of a queen and a goddess vying for a king, a role portrayed by a woman. At the same time, clowns vie for the three female roles in their rendition of the three queens of Bali. This 85-minute film intricately weaves together elements of romance, betrayal, humor, and art.
Cathee Mang has been active in film, TV, and theatre since she was 17. Her first documentary feature, "Dancing Faces of Bali," is available on Prime Video in the U.S. and the U.K. The sequel, "Dancing Faces of Bali 2," is with the distribution company Adler and Associates Entertainment, Inc. Cathee has written, directed, and produced numerous videos and audio recordings at Citra Studio in Jakarta, Indonesia, where she resided for almost ten years. She has danced with ladies styling, bachata, and salsa teams, including OC Salsa, Rhythmic Fusion (RF), and the Sage Dance Company in the LA area. Cathee studied Asian and Western theatre at the University of Hawaii, earning her M.F.A. in directing. She has professional acting experience and is a SAG AFTRA member.
