What we need to know about Fantasia Film Festival
Quentin Tarantino described Fantasia as “the most important and prestigious genre film festival on this continent.” Guillermo del Toro referred to it as “a shrine.” Fantasia is a Canadian festival based in Montreal.

Fantasia is a renowned 18-day celebration of international fantastic filmmaking held each July in the heart of Montreal. The event is dedicated to highlighting the most exciting, innovative, and unique voices in contemporary genre cinema from around the world. Our 2026 edition featured works from 54 countries.
Although primarily a fantasy/action/horror festival, Fantasia has always welcomed works whose distinct individuality places them in a genre of their own. We have presented everything from captivating dramas, eccentric comedies, provocative documentaries, mind-blowing experimental pieces, and even unconventional children’s films.

Since its inception in 1996, Fantasia has evolved into a widely popular and trendsetting summer tradition in Montreal, drawing approximately 100,000 attendees over 18 days to enjoy remarkable films from all over the world. The 2026 edition showcased films from 54 countries. The upcoming Fantasia will take place from July 15 – August 1, 2027, at Concordia University.
