Quentin Tarantino has chosen his next project, and he's teaming up with Sly Stallone to co-direct what promises to be an exciting 1930s-style series, TMZ has learned.

According to sources with direct knowledge, the series is set in the '30s and will be highly authentic, filmed in black and white using 1930s cameras.

The series will consist of six parts, featuring gangsters, showgirls, boxing, and music.

It's not clear if the cast has been finalized, but we're informed that Sly will be working behind the camera, not in front of it.

Both Quentin and Sly have experience with 1930s period pieces. Quentin famously directed "Inglourious Basterds," an alternate WWII film partially set in 1939. Stallone played real-life mob enforcer Frank Nitti in "Capone," a film set in the early '30s gangster era.

Sly's 1978 directorial debut, "Paradise Alley," also has elements of a gangster film, though it's set in 1940s NYC, with a raw, gritty, character-driven vibe.

Both Hollywood icons have experimented with black-and-white footage in their previous works, but this project will be a completely different experience as they'll use old-school cameras exclusively throughout the series.
