For the second consecutive weekend, the Ryan Gosling-starring film remained the No. 1 movie at the U.S. box office, earning $54.5 million.

The movie debuted in theaters last weekend, generating $80.5 million. It has become the highest-grossing movie of the year so far, with domestic earnings of $164.3 million, according to Variety.

Here’s the synopsis: “Science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) awakens on a spaceship light years from Earth with no memory of his identity or how he arrived there. As his memory returns, he starts to unravel his mission: to solve the mystery of the substance causing the sun to die out.
