Madden is hitting the big screen to celebrate the life of the legendary football figure, John Madden.
The trailer for the upcoming biopic, starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Oscar-nominated David O. Russell, dropped on September 24, giving fans a closer look at how Madden's story is brought to life on film.
Madden's journey started when he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1958, but a knee injury cut his playing career short. In 1969, he became the head coach for the Oakland Raiders, leading them to their first Super Bowl victory seven years later. Madden stepped down from coaching in 1979 and became a beloved color commentator until 2009.
The former pro athlete also became the face and voice of the wildly successful video game series, Madden NFL. Madden passed away at 85 on December 28, 2021.
“Nobody loved football more than Coach. He was football. He was an invaluable advisor to me and many others,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at the time. “There will never be another John Madden, and we owe him greatly for all he contributed to making football and the NFL what they are today.”

According to a plot summary from Amazon MGM Studios, the film will cover Madden’s journey “from his Super Bowl-winning partnership with fellow coach Al Davis and the Raiders, to the creation of Madden NFL, and his rise as one of the most iconic voices in football history.”
The first Madden video game was released by Electronic Arts in 1988, and the popular franchise is still going strong today.
